Mike started in
landscaping when he was 14 years old, helping his father’s tree
care business fertilizing trees and shrubs. After studying at
the University of Missouri he worked at Ironhorse Golf Club and
later was the Greens Foreman at Indian Hills Country Club.
Before founding Complete Turf and Landscape, Mike served as
sales representative, account manager and seasonal color
coordinator for Hermes Landscaping.
In 2005 Mike became one of only 66 people in Missouri and
Kansas to earn the title “Certified Landscape Technician” from
the Professional Landcare Network. He has an Associate in
Applied Science, Grounds and Turf Management degree from
Longview Community College. He is active in the community
serving as a merit badge counselor for the Heart of America Boy
Scouts, serving on the board of the Ward Parkway Homes
Association and is an area coordinator for the Walking School
Bus program. In his spare time Mike enjoys spending time with
his wife Debby and their children Mary, 10 and Robert, 6. His
interests include youth coaching, biking, canoeing, attending
concerts, Royals and Mizzou Tigers games.
Brett Payton, Designer
Brett is a licensed landscape architect and has worked in the
Kansas City metropolitan area for 9+ years. His work experiences
range from master planning for large sports facilities to urban
plazas to residential design.

The diverse work, from urban planning to
intimate site plans, has given Brett a well-rounded base that
has shaped his design philosophy and approach.
As a designer, Brett understands the
significance of proportion, scale, color, texture, materiality,
form and function associated with each project. Along with the
shaping the aesthetic value of every design, Brett also has a
wealth of experience producing documents for construction, such
as grading/drainage, planting and layout plans, along with
construction detailing for site specific conditions. He enjoys
tapping the potential of each project and relishes the process
from design to construction.
He gained a bachelor's degree of
landscape architecture from the College of Architecture,
Planning + Design at Kansas State University. He is registered
in the state of Kansas.
Brett loves spending time with his family; his wife Tara,
children Patrick, Kate, Henry, and a feisty dog named Lucy. He
also loves to explore graphic design and art and plans to learn
welding and sculpture...someday. When he is not sketching,
designing, or spending time with family, Brett is often working
on endless house renovation projects. Brett is a member of
Heartland Community Church and is a sports fanatic. He would
also prefer a porterhouse steak, or BBQ, over a long walk on the
beach any day of the week.
